Dinosaur party medal alternatives UK: small prizes that feel fair
A quick UK parent guide to replacing party medals with mini dinosaur prizes for games, sports-day birthdays and mixed-age groups.

Plastic medals can work for one race, but they often create two problems at a dinosaur birthday party: children compare colours, and the medal is forgotten as soon as the cake appears. A small dinosaur prize feels more useful because it becomes part of the game story and can go straight into a party bag.
For UK parents running garden races, hall games or a mini sports-day party, mini dinosaur figures are a simple medal alternative: one purchase can cover winners, helpers and every child who joins in.
Why dinosaurs beat medals for mixed-age games
- They avoid ranking rows. Let winners choose first, then every child still gets a dinosaur.
- They fit the theme. The prize feels like a fossil rescue, not a random plastic token.
- They work across games. Use the same prize pot for relay races, obstacle courses, lucky dip and party bags.
- They reduce leftovers. Spare figures become table scatter, cake toppers or classroom reward-box fillers.
A fair prize rule for party races
Before the first game starts, tell children the rule: "Everyone gets a dinosaur at the end; race winners get first pick." That gives competitive children a reason to try without making slower or younger guests feel left out.
If you are running several games, put the figures in a shallow "fossil tray" and give each round winner a numbered token. At the end, token holders choose first, then everyone else chooses one. It keeps the prize table quick and avoids stopping the party after every race.
How many mini dinosaurs do you need?
Count one figure per child, then add five spares for siblings, lost pieces or a helper prize. If the pack includes very small pieces, remove them before preschool parties and keep the larger dinosaurs for younger guests.

For most UK dinosaur parties, mini figures are a calmer medal alternative: children still get a visible reward, but the prize doubles as a toy, favour-bag filler and themed decoration.
